Gen Zs are constantly taking the fall in the world today; in the workplace, at home, in school, and now even on the roads. This, however, is not necessarily a negative thing. Let’s talk about GenZs on the road.
Generally, it is known that the attention span of the younger generation is shorter compared to that of the older generation. According to a 2022 article by The Health Board, the average attention span of a person in their late teens or early twenties, which is the age range that makes up the millennial and Gen Z, is about 15 to 20 minutes. Now picture, these guys behind the wheel.
It gets worse in the age of technology we have found ourselves in. Those who make up these generations are “tech inclined”. The use of phones is now common order in our day, including when driving; a brief stop at a traffic light and you find them checking notifications on their phone or evening checking for directions while the vehicle is in motion. You would find that in that brief moment, there could be an accident. This is not synonymous with only these generations, however, it is most common with them.
Oh How they love their music, and how they love it playing loudly. One would think they are trying to shatter the glasses of their vehicles. You would find that they would do this with all windows up, how then would they hear oncoming vehicles honking?
Have you watched the American movie “Fast and Furious”? So many parts it has to it, that you would find driving similar to that in the movie when you have people of these generations on the roads. The older generations are calmer and less prone to accidents.
Always in a rush, these young ones. Drivers of all ages can improve their driving to ensure that the roads are safer for all road users. Less distractions could do the trick you know. Stay focused on the road ahead till you get to your destination or better still if it’s urgent, find a safe place to park along the road and make use of your phones or any other thing you would like to do, then when that is done, carry on with your trip.
